Thinking of Taking Your Business Global?

Thinking about going global is a real milestone in your business mindset – it basically means you’ve achieved what you wanted to achieve at home and you’re ready to go above and beyond. Once you’ve gone global, you’re not going back – and that’s exactly why you need to make sure that you have everything well organised so that you can handle your operations smoothly from wherever you are in the world.

Whether you’re running a chain of stores and some of them are overseas, or you’re running a writing agency where your employees are scattered across the globe, there are a lot of different things to take into account when you’re going global.

So what are the most important things you need to know how to do effectively and remotely?

Communicate Effectively

This might seem obvious, but it’s surprising how many companies fall at this hurdle – no matter how smoothly your business runs, there is always a need for clear and efficient communication. There is always a question that needs answering or a problem that needs troubleshooting.

As well as ensuring your staff structure is set up to cope with global working – for example, having a manager in each country or at least time zone – you need to be familiar with collaborative communication software such as Slack or Asana which enable everyone to work together with ease, even when you’re not available.

A shoddy communication structure will result in inefficient workflows and sub-par projects as well as dissatisfied workers.

Manage Your Overseas Workers With Ease

You also need to be able to manage your employees and workload effectively from afar; when you’re running a global business you need to be hands on, but you also need to be able to let go of the small stuff and trust that everything will run smoothly without your direct oversight.

Using assignment management software can make this much easier, as it takes care of the delegation of projects and assignments as well as enabling communication across and within teams. It also enables you to manage HR from a central, international hub which makes for a closer team who feel empowered to communicate their needs and concerns effectively.

As with a single-country business, the central pillars of effective communication and a strong management structure are still the most important aspects of running an effective company.

The people are the most important part of any business. Ensuring that they are able to work together properly within a clear structure means the business will be able to run itself – even across borders.
