Electronics That May Be Harming Your Health

It’s true that we are all enthralled to the wonders of technology. It does amazing things for us every day, from helping us to monitor our heart rate to telling us we’re late for a meeting. In many ways, it’s hard to imagine exactly how the world ran in the years before all this technology came to light.

However, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Although we all rely on technology to run our daily lives, there’s also some evidence to suggest that tech – especially wearable tech – is having a detrimental effect on our health.

Multiple studies over the years have shown that long term exposure to EMF radiation from cell phones has negative effects in the health of animals, and some EMFs have been classified as ‘potentially carcinogenic to humans’. There is not enough data to suggest a hard and fast connection, but there is certainly enough to make us reevaluate our relationship with technology. This is especially relevant to women and children; due to what’s referred to as the ‘data gap’, there is very little understanding of the effects of EMF radiation on women’s and children’s bodies as the vast majority of research is done on adult males.

So if the research above has found supporting evidence for the negative effects of EMF fields with cell phones and other devices, the effect of wearable tech like apple watch radiation must be even more pronounced.

Yes and no. On a positive note, the level of radiation that’s emitted by Apple watches is much lower than that emitted by your phone, laptop or wifi router – however, it is so much closer to your body as you wear it on your skin. Additionally, this is unlikely to be the only radiation you are exposed to – you probably use your cell phone and laptop frequently throughout the day as well.

This means that your overall level of exposure is increased, and additionally that you are exposed constantly to a level of EMF radiation with no breaks, which we do know is not good for you.

It’s worth noting that there is no research directly linking exposure to wearable tech and serious health issues such as cancer – but we do know that constant exposure to EMF radiation so something to be avoided. So make sure you take off your apple watch for at least a few hours each day – and don’t sleep with it on!
